ANNOUNCEMENT: Monday Night Novice Rides

These rides are for new members, beginners, and leisurely riders and lead by experienced club members. These are “No Drop” rides which means that nobody will be left behind on their own. They will take place mostly in-town and be approximately an hour long. The distance and pace will be dictated by the those who attend.

The goal is to learn how to ride in a group, how to interact with traffic and get some tips on how to use gears effectively. Experienced club members are encouraged to come out and support new riders in our club.

Novice Rides will take place on Monday nights starting in June. For the month of June the rides will leave from the Northwest corner of The Metro parking lot at the Northumberland Mall at 7:00pm.

Sunday, May 29: Community Ride #1 for Bike Week

This is Bike Week! Our Club is hosting 3 rides for members of the community to try out our club and the first of them will occur on Sunday. Since we’ll have people of all ages and ability, the rides will be shorter and easier than usual, measuring about 15km or less for each ride and take place primarily in town where the routes are flat.

For the rides during bike week, non-members will be allowed to ride on one occasion only with our club. The only requirement will be that they wear a helmet and sign an OCA waiver that we will have available at the beginning of the ride.

It is hoped that many of the experienced cyclists will share their expertise in assisting with the new cyclists who may be present on the ride.

Club members who wish to extend the ride are more than welcome to do so after the planned community ride is over.

Start time: 10:00am

Thursday May 19 (38 or 19km) from The Mill, 10am

Yesterday was a big washout, so we will do the ride and the optional lunch next Sunday instead. Judging from the forecast it looks like rain every day this week too!

In the meantime, this Thursday’s ride will still depart from the parking lot at The Mill (Restaurant) in Cobourg (not Donegan Park).

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: The Mill Restaurant Parking lot

Long Ride Leader: Paul Mills
Short Ride Leader: if needed, TBD

Sunday May 22 (38 or 19km) from The Mill Restaurant, 10am

This Sunday’s ride will depart from The Mill Restaurant in Cobourg (as was the plan for last Sunday) with the option to go into the restaurant for lunch afterward.

This week’s short route (19.5km) bypasses the worst hill. Thank-you Paul, for mapping out the route.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: The Mill Restaurant
Route map and directions: Click here for the route map.
Ride Leader: Need volunteers for both Long and Short rides.

Please comment below if you are riding and if you will join in for Lunch so that a reservation can be made. Since it’s the long weekend the restaurant could be busy on Sunday so we’ll need to know numbers—Spouses, friends, and family are more than welcome at restaurant.

Sunday May 15 (38.5 or 19.5km) from The Mill Restaurant, 10am

SMALL CHANGE OF PLAN!
This Sunday’s ride will now depart from The Mill Restaurant in Cobourg (not Donegan Park) with an optional Lunch at the restaurant afterward! (spouses and friends welcome).

This week’s short route (19.5km) bypasses the worst hill. A big thank-you to Paul for mapping out the route.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: The Mill Restaurant

Ride Leader: Need volunteers for both Long and Short rides.

(if you haven’t done so already, place your vote for which night of the week you’d like to see the club develop an Evening Ride. It’s in the right hand column of your screen)

Thursday May 12, (23 or 38 km) from Donegan Park, 10am (again!)

It was such a great route, we’re doing it again on Thursday morning. 38km, or a 23km short route, your choice. We all agree that the first half was a little on the hilly side, but the scenery and easier riding in the second half are well worth the effort.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route map and directions: Click here
Ride Leader: Paul Mills will lead the short ride. **Leader for the long ride TBD

Please comment below indicating if you plan to ride and if you are interested in either the long or the short route. (Don’t worry, you can always change your mind).
