Thursday June 26: 66k or 79k ride to Castleton and Beyond

If the weather cooperates we have a 66k or 79k ride planned. To make it 66 you would need to turn south in Castleton rather than north. If you think that’s still too long, take a look at the map on Ride with GPS and you can suggest alternatives to others who may want to go shorter.

As usual, the Level 3 group will be expected to ride together in a group and do the shorter (66k) distance. Level 4 will ride in groups according to ability. Riders in both levels should have a map and be self-sufficient in the event of a flat.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route map: 79k printable route map or view it on Ride with GPS
Level of Difficulty: Level 3 (66k), Level 4 (79k)

Sooooo…..here’s your opportunity to let others know you are riding and how far you want to go. Leave a comment!

Wednesday June 25th: Port Hope Ride at 6:30pm

It’s the fabulous Port Hope Ride option! Not a huge group, but a great group of folks, riding about 30k at a pace that’s reasonable.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Route: approximately 30km
Level of difficulty: varies
Ride Leader: Pamela Tate

Be pro-active, leave a comment, let folks know you are riding. It’s always more fun knowing and anticipating that others will be there. Plus, it allows Pam to plan ahead. 🙂

Wednesday June 25: Level 2 ride, 20km

This week’s ride starts at the industrial park on Willmott Street. We will ride eastbound on Highway #2 to Gully Rd.  The top of Gully Rd. is the highest elevation point of this ride and then on it’s all downhill (well, mostly). The Gully Rd. Hill is a little steep, but it’s short and with a low gear and a slow pace you are sure to conquer it. There is an optional hill climb, Hill 60, near the end of this ride if The Gully just wasn’t big enough for you. We will all meet up again at Workman Rd, before heading back to the car park.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Parking lot industrial park east end. Willmott and Dodge streets.
Route Map:Printable route map with elevations
Difficulty: Level 2 (+ a smidgen)
Ride Leader: Mike Mclellan

Monday June 23, 2014: Level 1 ride at 6:30pm

We have a different start location tonight. We’ll meet in the parking lot behind Cycle Transitions and depart from there. Level 1 rides are a lot of fun, and most of all they are very safe for the participants as we ride in a group and nobody gets dropped. It’s a great ride where you can ask all those questions about cycling, routes, gearing, and just about anything you’ve always wondered about regarding cycling. And it’s not just for beginners—it’s an opportunity to pay-it-forward, as experienced riders are encouraged to support and assist new riders.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: parking lot behind Cycle Transitions
Ride Leader: Maria Garrett

Thursday June 19th: “To Harwood and Beyond” 63k ride (or 55k)

This ride takes some familiar roads up toward Harwood, but upon departing Harwood we take a little detour along Rice Lake Scenic Drive and Lilac Valley Rd. If you want to chop off 8k and make it just 55k you can just head straight down Harwood Road after re-loading your water bottle as we all like to do in Harwood.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route Map: “To Harwood and Beyond” 63k printable route map here
Level of difficulty: Levels 3 and 4

As usual, the Level 3 group is expected to ride together as a group (without a ride leader) and Level 4 may go faster and break off into smaller groups according to ability (again, without a ride leader).

So how ’bout it? Leave us a comment, tell us you are riding. 🙂

Sunday June 22: The NHCC Sharon Ingle Memorial Ride

sharon-lrThis Sunday is a little different. To honour an NHCC club member who lost her fight to cancer at the end of last year’s riding season, we are holding a ride to honour Sharon Ingle who was with us for a brief time but left a significant impact on those who knew her.

Last year at this time Sharon sought support from the NHCC as she was still “Riding to Survive”, never planning to give up.

Donations: We are asking all who wish to participate in the ride on Sunday to make a voluntary donation that will be forwarded to the Canadian Cancer Society. We will have forms available for those who wish a tax receipt from the Cancer Society. (Please make cheques payable to the Canadian Cancer Society, not the NHCC).

The route: will be a simple out-and-back along the Waterfront Trail Eastbound so there are no route maps or ride leaders needed. We will break into groups according to ability and everyone can ride as long (or short) as desired.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park

Please leave a comment letting others know approximately what level of difficulty you wish to ride at (Levels 1 – 4). That way, others can plan to ride with you!

Sunday June 15: Ride from Port Hope

This ride goes out into Hope Township. Since Hwy. 2 has construction, we will meet at the parking lot at Port Hope Town Hall and take off from there. There are two distances to choose from: 46k or 62k. In either case, it’s going to be a little hilly….just can’t be helped! Level 3’s ride at a slower pace, shorter distance, and stay together in a group. Level 4’s ride faster, longer and may break off into smaller groups according to ability.

If you are really wanting to leave the car at home and bike over from Cobourg, meet at the Park on Carlisle at 9:30. You might however, have a little wait at the construction site. If you choose to meet here, leave a comment to let others know.

Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Route map (Level 3): Printable 46k route map, or link to Ride with GPS
Route map (Level 4): Printable 62k route map, or link to Ride with GPS

Whatever you are planning to ride, please leave a comment and let others know. People really appreciate knowing there might be others riding at their pace.

We going to meet in the parking lot behind the Dutch Oven and head out for our fabulously fun, most incredibly exciting Level 1 ride. 🙂 For those who have never come out for a Monday night ride, why not give it a try? You’ll truly see where the “fun” and “friendship” portion of our NHCC motto comes from.
