Sharon Ingle: 1959 – November 6, 2013

Sharon The Northumberland Hills Cycling Club has lost a friend who inspired us all. Sharon Ingle joined the NHCC this past Spring and brought with her a bouncy smile and an abundance of positive energy. While still recovering from brain surgery, she rode her bike, participated in charity rides, kayaked, swam, and mountain biked, then enrolled in a course to become a Can-Bike Instructor—her motto being, “Cancer can’t hit a moving target”. Got a decent bike to donate to less fortunate in Cuba?

bikeVivian is hoping someone in the NHCC might be able to offer a donation of one used adult sized mountain bike to take to Cuba at Christmas to donate to a local person there. She’s already purchased two bicycles already and is hoping that the donation of another bicycle can help her deliver a third one to others less fortunate.

If you can help her out, or know someone who knows someone, please leave a comment here so she can get in touch with you. Or, email us directly and we’ll send along your info.

Sunday Oct. 20: Ride from Donegan Park

Okay, so it predicts 14° for tomorrow but at least no rain. We’ll head out along the Waterfront Trail Eastbound as far as people want to ride and then back again. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, Presqu’ile Park makes for a nice 100k. Or just go to Wicklow and back and you’ll still be awesome!

Start time: 10am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: Waterfront Trail Eastbound

We’d really be happy as clams again if you would leave a comment to let us know you plan to ride. It worked on Thursday….we had plenty of folks riding, we yakked the whole way and enjoyed the ride.

Thursday October 17: Ride from Donegan Park 10am

Hopefully the weatherman delivers on the forecast 15° and cloudy. It’s time for a nice easy ride so e’ll head out along the Waterfront Trail Eastbound perhaps to Colborne and back. Or further, for those who want to get in a little more distance before those temperatures drop to 11° by the weekend. C’mon! Get out the bike, winter’s not here yet. This route is suitable for all levels, since it’s out and back and about as flat as it gets in these parts. You don’t have to go the whole way either, just choose your turnaround point whenever you feel you are halfway done!

Start time: 10am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route: Waterfront Trail Eastbound

We’d really be happy as clams if you would just leave a comment to let us know you want to ride. That way, those who are coming can plan for distance and speed. 🙂

The NHCC year-end AGM and Social: Fri. Nov. 22

Announcing our 2013 Annual General Meeting and Year-end Social taking place on Friday November 22nd at the Cobourg Yacht Club. It’s great opportunity to see everyone dressed in something other than spandex and bike helmets. We do a few awards, a slideshow highlighting our cycling season, and enjoy some great food and friendship. Catering will be done by the Dutch Oven just like last year and by all accounts the food was great.Continue reading

Thursday Oct. 10: Morning Ride at 10am

20° and sunny, so what more incentive do you need? There are three distances to choose from—short, medium or long, so take your pick. The 36 km route is suitable for a fairly easy ride. The other distances….well, of course you know there will be a hill or two (or three). That’s why it’s called the Uphill Downhill route.  🙂 Also, it’s that time of the year when the views are colourful and worth every hill you climb.
