Sunday July 23, 2017 All Levels Ride

This Sunday morning we’re organizing an all levels ride which will head east along the Waterfront Trail as far as each rider would like to go before they turn back.

If anyone wants to do a century they can head to the lighthouse in Presqu’ile – or not! Access to the park has been restored however  you must go through Brighton as Union Rd is being resurfaced.

We’ll use the  Waterfront Trail so there’s no map, and it’s an out an back ride so you may encounter other riders on your way back.

If you leave a comment if you are coming, and can indicate the level and distance you’re hoping for, it often encourages others who would like to come out but don’t know whether they’ll have someone to ride with.

After all, most of us join a club to ride with others! As it’s an all levels Sunday ride, there won’t be leaders for each group.

Date: Sunday, July 23, 2017
Time: 9:00
Meeting Location: Donegan Park
Levels: all
Ride Organizer: Roberto

Thursday July 20: Level 4 EVENING Ride, 44 or 56k

Updated – Wed. July 19 “All Levels Ride”

It’s the third Wednesday of the month which means an “All Levels Ride”, this time followed by beer at Arthur’s Pub at the Best Western. The ride will start and finish at parking lot in-front of William Street Brewery.  This will eliminate the need to ride down busy Elgin Street. We’ll mosey over the Arthur’s after the ride.

All Levels Rides: There’s just one route out-and-back route. You ride for time instead of distance so everyone can start and finish together regardless of speed. It’s your chance to try out the next level up. There’s really no risk because if you can’t keep up you can just drop back and people from the other levels will be coming up behind you. There will be a designated Leader setting the pace for each of the Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 so you can just choose your level and ride!

Time: 6:30–8:00pm (ride) 8:00-9:30pm (Social)
Start location: William Street Brewery parking lot
Route: L2,3,4 Behind Mall to Rogers Road -> Carlisle -> Hwy. #2 -> Theater Road -> Telephone Rd -> Hamilton Rd. -> Dale Rd. -> Danforth Rd. (this is 17 km so the turn around should be at the church).

L1 Will meander through New Amherst and West Park Village

Important: Please RSVP so that we can ensure adequate patio space for everyone! RSVP by leaving us a comment….just tell us you’re coming!

Tues July 18, Level 2 Ride: Port Hope West from King’s Field

Pam will lead us on the Waterfront Trail West from King’s Field. It is truly a breathtakingly scenic route. Chime in with the comment section so we can know to expect you.

Pam says:
“We’ll meet at 6:30 at King’s Field at the south end of Victoria St just south of Ridout St in Port Hope and head west along Lakeshore Rd. It’s an out and back route, 22km in all. Even though this route goes along the lake, there are a few level two hills to contend with, I’m not going to lie. Really only one challenging one on the way out and another one on the way back but it’s mid-July and I know everyone can do it! We will all channel the tortoise (as opposed to those level four hares) and go slowly and steadily to summit every one of them. No rush! As many pauses and hydration breaks as everyone needs! Nobody left behind! Must have a good time! And I promise to remember my helmet this time. :)”

Start time: 6:30
Ride Leader: Pam Tate
Start Location: King’s field, south end of Victorial St, just south of Ridout St Port Hope

Monday, July 17th: Level 1 ride

July 16 Sunday Morning Level 3 Ride

The forecast for Sunday has improved with thunderstorms now expected to start around 2:00 pm. It should be great weather for an early morning ride. We’ll strive to do 39 kms at level 3 speed in order to make it back home safely.

Starting point: Furnace Street Arena
Time: 9:00
Leader: Roberto
Route: McLellans Northumberland Heights Loop

July 17 Monday Night Level 2/3 Ride

A 41km jaunt through the Northumberland country side, worthy of the Club’s name of Northumberland HILLS Cycle Club. We’ll head to the Ste Anne Spa area through Danforth and Massey then up Clouson to county Rd 23. Return via Stewart and Community Centre road. We won’t lie there are a few hills to climb (442 metres of total climbing) – but what goes up must come down and I can promise to both start and finish at Lake Level!

Ride Leader: The Old Sapper

Saturday, July 15th: Joint Ride with the Ganaraska Freewheelers

This season we will have two rides with another local cycling club, the Ganaraska Freewheelers. On Saturday we are having the first joint ride and are offering two routes. We will all meet in Hastings, and then set out on your ride of choice.

Option 1: The Lang Hastings Trail which is suitable for all levels – head out at the speed you want for whatever distance you’d like then head back the same way.

Option 2: A road ride to the Stoney Lake Market in Crowes Landing and back on the same route. This ride is Level 3 or 4 .

For those who want a little ice cream to fuel the ride, there are opportunities for that on both routes. If anyone wants to go out for a drink, bite to eat, and socializing afterwards, there are some choices for that in Hastings and we can discuss that before the ride.

Date: Saturday, July 15th
Start Time: 10:00
Meeting Location: parking lot beside Banjos ( public washroom facilities are available)

Route (Option 1):
Suitable for all levels, (crushed limestone path) : Lang Hastings Trail (distance is your choice)

  • Start at parking lot at 3 Bridge Street South
  • Head north over bridge
  • Turn left at the lights (Front Street West)
  • Turn left onto Park Lane (you have travelled 1.9km so far and you are very close to the trail now)
  • Turn left onto River Road
  • Turn left onto Asphodel 7th Line
  • The trail in on your right
  • Ride however far you would like (FYI-33km to get to Peterborough) then turn around and come back the same way

NOTE: when you return, make sure you turn left off the trail at Asphodel 7th Line. If you keep going you will come to the river with the open swing bridge so will have to turn around again and get to Asphodel 7th Line. This is not far and no big deal if you miss the turn the first time

Route (Option 2):
Level 3,4 : 66km (or you can turn around early

  • Start at 3 Bridge Street South
  • Head north over bridge to stop sign (Albert Street/Hwy 45) – turn right
  • Follow 45 into Norwood at which point 45 turns into 40 once you cross Hwy 7
  • Follow 40 until you get to the lake (Stoney Lake Market)
  • Turn around and follow 40 then 45 back to parking lot
