Wednesday Feb. 3, Evening Walk/Hike at 6:00pm
The weather isn’t too promising at the moment, but hey…let’s see how it goes. We’ll meet in the parking lot tomorrow night at 6:00pm and venture out going up, over, and around the streets of Port Hope. The conversation is always entertaining, and the people are a great bunch to get to know.
By the way, all are welcome. It’s not necessary to be a member of the NHCC in order to participate in the off-season activities. We do however, ask that non-members bring a signed waiver to give the the activity leader for insurance purposes.
Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall Parking lot
Hike/Walk leader: Jim Berg
If you plan to participate, please leave a comment here and let us know.
Cross Country Skiing: Saturday Jan. 30, 1:00pm
Lots of new puffy white stuff in the forest, so we’ll make the most of it. You know, happy people were skiing this past week even after all that rain when Cobourg was looking a little sparse. Being further north there’s always plenty of snow in the forest and Saturday looks like the best day this weekend for weather.
So, dig out the skiis and come on out. We will probably cover between 5 and 8 km over an hour and a half. Don’t worry if you think you can’t keep up. There are no experts here, especially when Anita is leading the way. 😃
Start time: 1:00pm
Start location: Northumberland Forest, Beagle Club parking lot
Your Fearless Ski Leader: Anita Macklin
Level of Difficulty: Ummmm….easy!
Please let us know you are coming by leaving a comment. It helps us to do a little advance planning.
Tuesday, February 2nd: morning walk
What better way to celebrate Groundhog Day than to get outside and see whether you can see your shadow? Colin is going to lead the group on a walk through older sections of the west end of Cobourg, followed by a coffee and social.
Date: Tuesday, February 2nd
Time: 9:30
Meeting Place: the Henley Arcade (make sure you admire the mural which includes a couple of bicycles while you are waiting)
Walk Leader: Colin Banfield
Distance: approximately 7km
Wednesday January 27: Evening Hike/Walk 6:00pm
The days are getting longer and the “official” start of our cycling season is just 100 days away! Okay, so it does sound like a lot, but if you wanna start getting in shape there’s no better time than now. We meet at 6:00, then head out for what sounds like a simple little walk but you will indeed get your heart rate up and burn off some winter calories. Plus, it’s just plain fun. Better than watching TV with a bag of chips.
And if that isn’t convincing enough, let us tell you that we don’t just stay on the streets…we typically head off-road at some point during the hike and discover new places that even long-time Port Hopers didn’t really know were there.
Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall Parking lot
Hike Leaders: Jim Berg and/or Pam Tate
Soooooo, you coming? If so, do the cool thing and leave a comment letting us know so that we can anticipate numbers.
Tuesday, January 26th: morning walk about town
There’s a nice group of people that enjoy a walk around Cobourg Tuesday mornings and you’ll have a good time if you can join them! Bring a little money for a coffee and social afterwards.
Date: Tuesday, January 26th
Time: 9:30
Meeting Place: Harden and Huyse, Division Street, Cobourg
Walk Leader: Bruce Bellaire
Come on out for some fresh air, exercise, and company!
Wednesday January 20: Evening Hike/Walk
Okay, so it may be a bit chilly but we at the NHCC are not wussies. Dig out those warm mitts and hats, throw on a pair of comfortable footwear and come on out for our evening hike/walk. The conversation is always great, the people even better! Honest! Bring a friend if you want.
Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike Leader: Jim Berg and/or Pam Tate
Tuesday, January 19th: Morning Walk
Roy Martin will once again lead a walk around Cobourg Tuesday morning. Following the walk, everyone is invited to retire at Harden and Huyse for a coffee and social.
Date: Tuesday, January 19th
Time: 9:30
Meeting Location: Cobourg Yacht Club parking lot
Walk Leader: Roy Martin
Saturday and Sunday: skiing in the Northumberland Forest
As long as the conditions hold out, we’ll cross country ski both days this weekend! We can decide what trails to do when we meet in the parking lot, but plan on being out for up to two hours. If anyone wants to do a shorter distance, we can factor in some drop out options.
Please note different start times for each day.
Saturday, January 16th – 2:00
Sunday, January 17th, 1:00
Meeting Location: Beagle Club parking lot, both days
Ski Coordinator: Maria Siemiaszko
Wednesday Jan. 13: Evening hike at 6:00
Hopefully y’all got your Christmas trees down and have recovered from the holidays. Now, let’s resume those evening hikes! It’s just an urban adventure (walk) so you don’t need to be prepared to go off-road or anything. After the hike, if anyone feels like popping into a local establishment for hot chocolate we’ll do so. In case you’ve been wondering, we usually cover about 6 or 7 kms at a fairly brisk pace, so you will indeed burn some calories—especially with all those hills in Port Hope.
Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike leader: Jim Berg
Thursday, January 14th: afternoon hike, ski, or snow shoe
Depending on what conditions Mother Nature will provide us, we’ll hike, snow shoe, or cross country ski in the Northumberland Forest Thursday afternoon. If it’s going to be a hike or snow shoe, we’ll do a mix of the Kinglet and Oak Ridges trails. If we’re hiking, bring icers and poles if you have any.
Just a reminder for anyone using the Beagle Club area, if there’s any trace of snow at all, stay off the cross country ski trails unless you’re on skis. Any other activity other than skiing on them wrecks the snow (no matter how little there may be!) for those who the trails are intended for during the winter.
Date: Thursday, January 14th
Time: 2:50
Meeting Place: Bowmanton Road, where the ORTA crosses it
Activity: dependent on conditions
Distance: it’ll depend on what we’re doing, but plan to be out for a couple of hours
