ALL THE WHEELY FUN CLUB NEWS!

Wednesday Night Hikes start Nov. 11

Cycling season is certainly winding down, but it doesn’t mean we will be inactive. Wednesday nights are Hike Nights! It was a popular activity last year. We typically meet in the parking lot at the Port Hope Town Hall where we’ll gather around 6:00 then do a semi-urban hike where we enjoy a lot of friendly laughs and stretch out those legs. We usually cover about 5-8 kms and afterward we sometimes pop into a local establishment for hot chocolate (or other such things)

This year your hike leaders will be Jim Berg and/or Pamela Tate on Wednesday evenings. (Note that there will also be periodic rural hikes lead by Maria Siemiaszko, likely on weekends.) We’ll continue with club hikes as long as club interest is there. Therefore, we ask that you leave a comment to let us know you are planning to come out.

Date: Wednesday November 11
Time:
6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike Leader: To be determined

Let us know you are coming, leave a comment please.

CANCELED: Friday, November 6th: afternoon ride

If the weather holds up, we’ll head out for a 75 minute ride. Maybe we’ll head up towards Baltimore at a fairly relaxed pace with no crazy hills.

Date: Friday, November 6th
Time: 1:00
Start Location: Cycle Transitions, 739 D’Arcy Street, Cobourg
Ride Leader: Maria Siemiaszko

Thursday Nov. 5: Morning ride, 10:30

We make hay while the sun shines (or so the saying goes). It’s going to be another warm day, minimal likelihood of rain, so we’re riding!

Start time: 10:30am
Ride leader: Geoffrey Honey
Start location: 210 Wilmott St., (Industrial parking lot)
Level of difficulty: TBD, based on participation

Be brave! Leave a message! It’s easy! Plus, it helps Geoffrey to know what sort of route & pace to plan out in advance.

NHCC Nominations for the Board of Directors

The NHCC Annual General Meeting is approaching on November 18th, 2015 and at that time we will seek to fill either one or two openings for directors on the Board. Anyone club member willing to invest a little time, and enthusiasm is eligible! It’s an opportunity to get involved and help shape the future direction of the NHCC.

The Board consists of up to 7 Directors who meet 4-6 times annually, typically at a director’s home. Some club business may be conducted via email from time to time if appropriate. Once assembled, the Board will decide on a meeting schedule that’s most convenient for it’s members. You may also be asked to get involved in various activities where your expertise and interests could really assist.

There are 2 positions open for the 2016 Board of Directors, each running for a term of up to 3 years. What does the Board of Directors do, you ask?

  • Primarily—develop Club direction and policy
  • Secondarily—organize, oversee and/or participate in sub-committees such as the Cycle Touring Sub-Committee, Ride Leader Development Training, Membership Committee, Off-season Activities, etc.
  • Three directors are assigned by the Board to fill the roles of President, Secretary, and Treasurer

If you feel that either you (self-nomination is permitted) or someone else you know has the spirit to help the NHCC grow and prosper, please complete the nomination form below: (information you may provide below will not be made publicly available, only the name of the nominee)

Wednesday Nov. 4: Ride to Harwood and Back

This week may be our last blast of warmth and sunshine, so we’ll make the most of it on Wednesday afternoon. The forecast is nothing but sunshine! We’ll do one of our club’s favourite rides, a nice 55km ride along some familiar roads up toward Harwood where we can sneak in a butter tart (or two). If numbers permit, we will ride in two groups–Level 3 and Level 4. Alternatively, we’ll remain all together at a pace dictated by the skill and interest of the group.

Start time: 1:30pm
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route Map: Printable 55k map/cue sheet or link to it on Ride with GPS
Ride Coordinator: Anita Macklin
Level of difficulty: Levels 3 and 4

So how ’bout it? Let’s make this a great one, and leave us a comment to let everyone know you’ll ride.
