ALL THE WHEELY FUN CLUB NEWS!

Tuesday, January 12th: Morning Hike

Meeting Location: west entrance to Northumberland Mall, next to Metro
Distance: approximately 5km
Hike Leader: Roy Martin

Sunday, January 3rd: Cross Country Ski

Has anyone been out to the Beagle Club cross country ski trails? I was hiking the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail east of 45 this morning and the hiking trails are ice crusted. I skied the Lang Hastings Trail this afternoon and it was OK for skiing because a snowmobile had been out and broke up the crust. Has our ski season begun? Because I’m not sure yet, I’ve already made plans to ski with a neighbour on the Lang Hastings trail again tomorrow morning. If anyone else is anxious to get out you’re welcome to join us. Leave a reply and I’ll tell you where we’re meeting at 10:00. If you want to ski Beagle Club because you know the trails are good, or are willing to take a chance and want some company – comment below!

If Beagle Club is good, let me know and I’ll post some skiing out there for this week.

Wednesday January 6: Evening hike at 6:00

After the Christmas break, our hikes are back on! Ya just never know where we’ll hike to or what we’ll see, but one thing is for sure…your body will thank you! It always feels good to get some fresh air and you really do get to know people in a different way than you would on a bike. Why not give it a try? All you gotta do is show up! We’ll take care of the rest.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike leader: Jim Berg and/or Pam Tate

Sooooooo…..you coming out? Heck, leave a comment whether you’re coming or not.

New Years Day Hike & Potluck

It’s a little short notice, but hey we’ve got this little New Years tradition. We usually go for either a bike ride or a hike on the first day of the year, and this time it’s going to be a Hike followed by a potluck at Randy & Anita’s house afterward and some social time. Probably a good idea to wear some suitable footwear in case we hit some muddiness on the hike. All are welcome to join us, either for the hike, the potluck, or both. Feel free to bring a friend or neighbour! If you need our address please email us nhcycling2010@gmail.com and we’ll send it along.

Please bring your favourite beverage and something to share at our potluck. We’ll have the necessary dishes and utensils.

Date: Friday, January 1st
Hike/Walk: 2:00pm
Potluck: 4:00pm
Address: Email us for the address

Tuesday January 5: Morning Hike at 9:30am

We’re hoping everyone has had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family! It’s time to get back into action and get those legs moving again. The Tuesday morning Hike/Walks will resume on Tuesday, starting in downtown Cobourg at the Henley Arcade (just off Covert St.) and end at Harden & Huyse in Cobourg where we can enjoy some coffee and treats with friends.

Start time: 9:30am
Start location: At the Henley Arcade, just off Covert St.
Hike/Walk leader: Paul Mills
Important: Please leave a comment to let us know you’ll be out.

Sunday, December 20th: hike

IMG_20151216_154141

There’s a nice new trail to the lookout that’s recently opened in the Northumberland Forest so we’ll take it in as part of Sunday’s hike. The view is worth the hike up!
Date: Sunday, December 20th
Time: 10:00
Meeting Place: parking lot across from Woodland Road, Northumberland Forest
Distance: 10km (or so!)
Hike Leader: Freda Dong

Wednesday Dec. 16: Night Hike & After Hike Hullabaloo

This Wednesday night we’ll do the usual urban hike and afterward we’ll head into The Station in Port Hope for an After-hike Hullabaloo, where we can enjoy a few drinks with friends, or just yak. If you haven’t come out before for one of our evening hikes, why not make this the first? We normally cruise around town, exploring streets and pathways that we wouldn’t necessarily be able to do on a bike. But mostly, it’s just a great opportunity to stretch your legs and make new friends.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall Parking Lot
Hike Leaders: Jim Berg and Pam Tate

RSVP Important: The venue for the hullabaloo is not huge—we’ll need to make sure we’ve reserved enough space. Therefore, please leave us a comment to indicate your intent to participate and we’ll make sure they can accommodate.

Sunday, December 13th: Hike

Rick and Maaike have checked out a nice forest hike for us for Sunday morning. It’ll be a little rugged at the beginning and the end with an easier section in the middle. If you have hiking poles, you may want to bring them along for the slippery steep sections. We’ll be out for about 2 1/2 hours, so bring a drink and a snack.

Date: Sunday, December 13th
Time: 10:00 am
Meeting Place: Morris Road parking lot, Cty Rd 45 (just south of Beagle Club Road on the east side)
Distance: 10km
Hike Leader: Rick Nonnekes

Wednesday Dec. 9: Evening hike at 6:00pm

If you aren’t available for our morning hikes, fear not! We have great adventures on our Wednesday evening urban hikes, exploring Port Hope by foot. It’s a beautiful time of year to see all the Christmas lights and enjoy some great conversation and friendship with other NHCC-ers. Sometimes we head indoors afterward for a warm drink at a nearby establishment. Let us know if you plan to hike with us!

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Hike leader: Jim Berg

Sooooooo…..you coming out? It’ll be fun!
