ALL THE WHEELY FUN CLUB NEWS!
Wednesday July 16th: ALL LEVELS Ride, Wings, Beer & Jerseys!
It’s an ALL LEVELS ride night! That means one route that everyone rides, but at their respective paces, Levels 1-4.
The route is what we call a 1.5 hour out and back–You ride out for 45 minutes with your group and then turn around and come back. Everyone finishes at the same time. But on an All Levels night we encourage those who want to progress to the next level of difficulty to try it out. For instance, if you are Level 2 but want to try Level 3 you head out with the Level 3 group. If you find you just can’t keep up the pace and you want to drop back to level 2 it’s okay…they’ll be coming up behind you along the route and you just re-join if you wish.
And then, when it’s all done anyone who wishes can head into The Mill afterward and order up some wings, beer, and partake in some yakkity yak with other NHCC’ers and talk about how moving up a level was awesome!!
Club Jerseys: We will not have a Fit Kit for trying on, however we will be taking jersey orders at The Mill after 8:00pm. Short sleeve only. $68 including all taxes. Hopefully for September delivery.
Tour de Northumberland Hills: George from Port Hope Bicycle will be making the draw for Week 1 of the Tour.
Time: 6:30–8:00pm (ride) 8:00-9:30pm (social)
Start location: The Mill parking lot
Route map: 36km printable route map here, or view it on Ride with GPS
Ride leaders: Maria, Pam, Anita, and George
If you are planning to come to The Mill afterward, please leave a comment to RSVP and we can make sure they hold enough space for us.
Sunday ride cancelled
It’s raining, it’s pouring and it shows now sign of stopping. We’ll officially cancel today’s ride and hope for sunnier days ahead. Sorry, Brian 🙂
Monday July 14th: Special event: “Cobourg Canopy Tree Tour”
The tree tour was a huge success during Bike Week and people have been requesting it again. Sue Throop and Gina Brouer will guide a special 10 km ride around Cobourg for NHCC members, stopping to learn about ten different trees of interest, distinction and/or historical significance. All members are welcome for this special event, but we would like to know how many plan to participate so please leave a comment to let us know you are coming.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Lions/Lioness Pavilion, Victoria Park
Ride Leader: Maria Garrett
Leave a comment now!
About Sue and Gina: Sue is a cyclist and a tree lover/hugger. When she heard about the “Cucumber Tree” she was intrigued and through research found Gina. Through Gina she discovered that Cobourg has many beautiful, many of which are heritage and/or endangered. They feel a responsibility to care for them and let others know what’s out there.
Sunday July 13: Joint ride, NHCC, TBN & Ganraska Freewheelers
Today’s NHCC ride is cancelled. Too much precipitation happening out there!
This Sunday is a little different. The TBN (Toronto Bike Network) will be riding in our area and we, along with the Ganaraska Freewheelers will also join them for a route that Brian Hedney developed, the “Shelter Valley Shuffle”. There are three options to choose from and if you want to, you could bring a few bucks and stop for a small lunch break in Grafton. (For this ride, we’ll depart at 10:00 with the others, rather than 9am) By the way, it’s not too crazy hilly, so the shorter 54k distance is very doable for many. There will be lots of folks, riding a lots of different speeds.
Start time: 10am
Start location: Parking lot on Covert St. in Cobourg

Route map (84k): Printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
Route map (103k): Printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
People really appreciate and like when you leave a comment letting us know you plan to ride. It’s the best way to see that there are others thinking of doing the same distance and pace you expect to ride!
NHCC Club Jersey Orders
NHCC jerseys are ordered from Louis Garneau and take approximately 6–7 weeks to produce and deliver. We are preparing to order jersies that we expect would arrive in early September, but we first need to see if there is enough interest since there are minimum quantities required to order. We can have a Fit Kit delivered to us for people to try-on first, but we’d like to know which styles club members are most interested in. Jerseys will cost between $68 for regular short sleeves and sleeveless, a little more for long sleeves. (all taxes included)
We hope to collect jersey orders next Wednesday night at the All Levels Ride, Wings and Beer night at the Mill.
Thursday July 10, 59k Ride to Gores Landing and Harwood
Don’t forget that the morning rides now start at 9am. This one heads north, we’ll reach Gore’s Landing and then follow Rice Lake Scenic Drive almost to Harwood, turning south on Sully. If you need water or want to take a quick stop at the store you can follow through to the Harwood store and the water re-loading spot. It’s a total of 59k.
Note: We will not be repeating this route on Sunday like we usually do. Sunday we’ll be doing the Shelter Valley Shuffle as a joint ride with the TBN (Toronto Bicycle Network)
Start time: 9am
Start location: The arena on Furnace St.
Route Map: 59k Printable route map here or view it on Ride with GPS
Port Hope Ride: Wednesday July 9
As usual, we will continue to start at 6:30 at Port Hope’s town hall. But this week we will have two options to choose from: The usual 30km route that Pam will lead, plus George will lead a faster crowd up north all the way to Millbrook. (That one of course being a little speedier than the 30k). If anyone doing the 30k wants to avoid the hill going west from town hall at the very beginning of the ride, you can meet us at the corner of Ridout and Toronto Rd (at Winchester Arms).
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride leader (30k): Pamela Tate
Ride leader (to Millbrook and back, approx 60k): George Hussey
Hey folks, let Pam know if you are planning to ride. It’s really quite handy (and appreciated) if she knows how many to expect. Thanks!
Wednesday July 9: Ride to Baltimore and Back Plus more!
This week we will do the same as we did last week except that when we near the end of the route and turn north on D’Arcy, those who want to add some more distance will continue along King St. all the way out to Pebble Beach. Should add up to a total of around 31k! Just like last week, Anita is going to be your ride leader again. It’s not particularly hilly, so if there are any Level 1’s who are feeling strong enough, feel free to give it a try!
Start time: 6:30pm
Route Map: Printable route map here or view it on Ride with GPS
Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Parking lot behind Cycle Transitions
Monday July 7: Level 1 ride 6:30pm
New start location tonight. We’ll meet in the southwest corner of the No Frills Parking lot and head out from there. If you’ve been riding the other levels and haven’t tried a Level 1 ride why not come out? If you did the “Cold Springs Canter” (Level 3 & 4) on Sunday surely your legs will welcome some nice easy spinning. Plus it’s just a great way to meet other members of the NHCC.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: southwest parking lot at No Frills
Ride Leader: Maria Garrett
