Start location: Port Hope Town Hall

Wednesday July 2: Level 2 ride to Baltimore and Back
Summer is here! And it’s looking like the warm weather will continue through tomorrow night. We’ll meet at the parking lot behind Cycle Transitions and head out for a 21k ride. We’ll be heading out around the Baltimore way and back again. Your regular ride leader Mike is vacationing for the month of July so Anita is going to be your ride leader for this one. It’s not a very hilly ride, so if there are any Level 1’s who are feeling strong enough, this would be a good one to try!
Start time: 6:30pm

Ride Leader: Anita Macklin
Start location: Parking lot behind Cycle Transitions
Congratulations to the Cycling Safety Class Participants
![]()
The first participants of the NHCC Cycling Skills and Safety wrapped things up last night and by all reports everyone learned a lot. In fact, Jan “will never think of a sidewalk the same way again”, Geoffrey “thinks of intersections in a whole different way now”, and Josie and Claudia just know that Anita is proud of them! 🙂
It’s a great group of people who committed themselves to cycling safely! The instructors, George, Maria, and Anita really do feel proud to see everyone signalling, shoulder checking, and positioning themselves correctly as they cycle in town and beyond.
See, Be Seen, Be Predictable! Cycle on!
Sunday June 29: Century Ride (Plus) around Rice Lake
Well, it’s sort of a century ride…..a century ride plus 7% tax (for 107km total). We meet at the Bewdley Arena at 9am and head out for a tour around Rice Lake starting with the south side. There’s no planned lunch stop, but Hastings is about half-way so feel free to use the comments feature to organize if you wish to pause and eat somewhere. Or, just grab something on the go. As usual, Century Rides start at 9:00am.
The route is not exactly flat. There are a few (okay, a lot) of hills. Up, down, repeat…most of the way. On the northern portion after Hastings we’ll follow part of the Lang Hastings Trail just to keep us off the busy road. This ride is a little on the challenging side. If you are Level 3 and want to give it a try, be sure to allow yourself plenty of time and have a plan B if the hills become too much.
Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Bewdley Arena parking lot (Lake St. in Bewdley)
Route map: Printable Route map here or view it on Ride with GPS
Level of difficulty: Levels 3+ or 4
If you are planning to ride, leave a comment indicating your anticipated speed (slow, fast, or super fast).
Thursday June 26: 66k or 79k ride to Castleton and Beyond
If the weather cooperates we have a 66k or 79k ride planned. To make it 66 you would need to turn south in Castleton rather than north. If you think that’s still too long, take a look at the map on Ride with GPS and you can suggest alternatives to others who may want to go shorter.
As usual, the Level 3 group will be expected to ride together in a group and do the shorter (66k) distance. Level 4 will ride in groups according to ability. Riders in both levels should have a map and be self-sufficient in the event of a flat.
Start time: 10:00am
Start location: Donegan Park
Route map: 79k printable route map or view it on Ride with GPS
Level of Difficulty: Level 3 (66k), Level 4 (79k)
Sooooo…..here’s your opportunity to let others know you are riding and how far you want to go. Leave a comment!
Wednesday June 25th: Port Hope Ride at 6:30pm
It’s the fabulous Port Hope Ride option! Not a huge group, but a great group of folks, riding about 30k at a pace that’s reasonable.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Route: approximately 30km
Level of difficulty: varies
Ride Leader: Pamela Tate
Be pro-active, leave a comment, let folks know you are riding. It’s always more fun knowing and anticipating that others will be there. Plus, it allows Pam to plan ahead. 🙂
Wednesday June 25: Level 2 ride, 20km
This week’s ride starts at the industrial park on Willmott Street. We will ride eastbound on Highway #2 to Gully Rd. The top of Gully Rd. is the highest elevation point of this ride and then on it’s all downhill (well, mostly). The Gully Rd. Hill is a little steep, but it’s short and with a low gear and a slow pace you are sure to conquer it. There is an optional hill climb, Hill 60, near the end of this ride if The Gully just wasn’t big enough for you. We will all meet up again at Workman Rd, before heading back to the car park.
Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Parking lot industrial park east end. Willmott and Dodge streets.

Difficulty: Level 2 (+ a smidgen)
