Here’s what the NHCC is up to!

Thursday August 15th: Morning ride from Gilmer’s

A Port Hope start for tomorrow, and three distances to choose from, each of them the same for the first 7km and the last 10km. The difference is found in the middle portion of the route.

If you really want to add more distance, depart from Canadian Tire at 8:20am and you’ll add an extra 22km total to your route making the long route 80k. Be sure to print out a map and have one with you. If you need some sort of a fancy high-tech way to attach that map to the front of your bike a clothes pin will work great on one of those cables coming out of your handlebars. 🙂

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Gilmer’s Home Hardware parking lot in Port Hope
Level of difficulty: Level 3 and Level 4
Route Maps:

Ride leaders: Being determined

If you are leaving from Canadian Tire, please comment to let others know. Anyone want to volunteer to be ride leader?

Tuesday August 13th: Evening ride in Port Hope

There’s an evening ride on the sched for tonight. Not a lightning fast bone crushing speed type ride, just a casual ride, the pace being determined by consensus of those participating. Please comment below if you are riding so others can plan accordingly and you’ll have someone to ride with.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Ride Leader: George Hussey

Wednesday August 14 “Social Night”

This Wednesday night will be a Level 2 and 4 ride night. We’ll all head out, do our respective routes and then for those who have a little time afterward can convene at the Mill for Wings and socializing. That’s the best part! And if you just don’t want to ride but you’ve got a hankering for some wings, feel free to come out for just the wings.

The Level 4 ride will start from the Mill
The Level 2+ will start from Cycle Transitions

Important: Please comment below if you plan to ride tomorrow night so that we can make sure The Mill sets aside enough space for us.

Time: 6:30pm
Level 2+ Ride Leader: Mike McLellan
Level 4 Ride Leader: Vivian Vandenhazel

Level 1 Ride, Monday, August 12th

We’ve been enjoying some stellar riding weather so lets take advantage of it while we can!  Although this is a level 1 ride and we will stay in town and cruise at a chatting pace, any level rider is welcome to join us.  The daylight hours are becoming noticeably shorter so don’t forget your lights!

Time:  7:00 pm

Location:  parking lot behind the Dutch Oven

Ride Leader:  Maria Garrett

Sunday August 11: Ride at 9am from Cornish Hollow/Dale Rd.

We did these routes on Friday night and for those who missed it we’ll do it again on Sunday. There are three routes, providing distances suitable for all levels. The shortest route is just 14k and is pretty easy, so if you could choose to do it once and then decide to go around again making 28k. The medium and long routes have the usual hill-content that we can’t avoid, but not any more challenging than other rides have been.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: Corner of Cornish Hollow and Dale Rd. (park at Randy’s house if you know his address)
Route maps:
Level 1 (14km): Printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
Level 2 (30km): Printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
Level 3,4 (47km): Printable route map here, or link to Ride with GPS
Ride Leaders: Being determined

Anyone want to volunteer to lead one of the distances? Let me know!

If you are planning to come to the Friday night ride/potluck, consider bringing a lawn chair in case you wish to sit outside on the deck or by the campfire if we have one.

Thursday Aug. 8: Morning Ride, 9am

This ride has three distances to choose from so whether you are Level 2, 3 or 4 there’s a distance option for you. The 36 km route is relatively un-hilly (contrary to the name of the route) so should be manageable for Level 2 riders who want to give it a try.

Note that there will not be an evening ride option since we have the Friday night evening ride & potluck on the schedule for the next night.

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Arena on Furnace St. in Cobourg

Wednesday Aug. 7: Level 2 Ride 6:30pm

The route for tonight is 27km with a few smallish inclines. (baby hills) If you are a Level 3 or 4 rider it’s an ideal opportunity to come out to meet and support newer riders and enjoy a nice social ride. The new batch of Can-Bike instructors-in-training will be on hand during the ride so safety and a few other cycling topics will be a theme.

Start Time: 6:30pm
Start Location: Cycle Transitions – Back Entrance (Darcy Street opposite CCC)
Ride Difficulty: Level 2+
Route Map: Printable route map with elevations or, Link on Ride with GPS
Ride leader: Anita Macklin

Hope you can all make it! We’ve got to enjoy this great cycling weather while we have it.
