Here’s what the NHCC is up to!

Wednesday July 31 Level 2 30km Ride

NHCC Level 2This route is 30k long with a little bit of country and a little bit of town. There are a few hills on this ride but nothing as big “Hill 60” that we climbed on last week’s ride. Ball Street is now a gravel road so I have altered the route to miss it. The route is attached below.

Start Time: 6:30pm
Start Location: Cycle Transitions – Back Entrance (Darcy Street opposite CCC)
Ride Difficulty: Level 2+
Route Map: Printable route map with elevations of, if you are a little techy View the link on Ride with GPS
Ride leader: Mike McLellan

See you all then!

Monday Night Level 1 Ride

If the rain stays away, we’ll meet at the west side of the Furnace Street Arena for a casual ride around town.  Since it’s a little cool, we won’t make this one an ice cream ride, but bring a drink for hydration and don’t forget your bike lights.

Time: 7:00pm
Location:  Furnace Street Arena, west side
Ride Leader: Maria Garrett

Sunday July 28: “Cold Springs Canter” ride from Port Hope

This is another of Brian Hedney’s famous and fabulous routes. The “Cold Springs Canter” has a couple of distance options to choose from and if you want to make it longer you can start at Canadian Tire in Cobourg and bike over to Port Hope making the total distance 65k.

Start time: 9:00am (8:40 if you are riding from Canadian Tire)
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall
Route map: Printable route map here

See you all then!

Tuesday July 23: Evening Ride in Port Hope 6:30

The is the best weather ever for cycling. Not too hot, not too cold and beautiful sunsets. If you haven’t done the Port Hope ride before why not give it a try? Evening riding has a different feel than morning and it’s nice way to end your day.

Start time: 6:30pm
Start location: Port Hope Town Hall parking lot
Lights required at: 8:15pm
Ride Leader: George Hussey

If you think you want to ride but aren’t sure about the pace etc. feel free to use the comments section to let others know you are coming and the ride leader can plan accordingly.

Wednesday July 24th: Level 2 Ride 6:30pm

NHCC Level 2This route is 27k long with a little bit of country and a little bit of town. As per the discussion at our last ride I have added a few hills to this route. Remember the old adage “what goes up must come down” as you are climbing these hills!

Start Time: 6:30am
Start Location: Donegan Park
Ride Difficulty: Level 2+
Route Map: Printable route map with elevations of, if you are a little techy View the link on Ride with GPS
Ride leader: Mike McLellan

See you all then!

Monday July 22: Level 1 Ride, 7:00

This ride promises to be a little less hot and humid, making for some ideal riding conditions. The days are actually getting shorter, so if you haven’t already equipped your bike with lights on the front and the back it’s a good time to start thinking about it. Meet in the parking lot of the Dutch Oven, where Pamela Tate will lead the riders out for a tour around town.

Start time: 7:00pm
Start location: The parking lot behind the Dutch Oven
Sunset: 8:46pm (lights required at 8:16pm)
Ride Leader: Pamela Tate

Sunday July 21: Ride at 9am (40, 48 or 54km)

Some folks did this route on Thursday, and if you want to make it a little different for Sunday you could choose to do it in the opposite direction. There are options on this route to make it a little shorter and easier.

Level 3 (shorter and easier): Once in Port Hope, just take Hwy. 2 all the way back to Cobourg avoiding Bickle Hill. Doing so will make the route about 40km

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Ride leader, Level 4: Anita Macklin
Ride leader, Level 3: Being determined
Route map (54 or 48km): Ganaraska Freewheelers printable route map here

Century Rides:
Just a small reminder too, that we have 100k rides planned for each long weekend in the summer. The last long weekend, Labour Day weekend, we plan on both 100k and 160k. That ride is tentatively set for Sunday, September 1st. Start getting your distance in now!

Thursday EVENING ride, July 18th: 48km

The evening ride has just one distance option (48km) and includes Bickle Hill making it a Level 4 ride for sure. You’ll need lights on your bikes after 8:20pm (Sunset is at 8:50). We’ll have to leave at 6:00 pm in order to get the whole ride in by 8:30.

Start time: 6:00pm
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Route map: (Ganaraska Freewheelers route, no link to GPS): Printable route map here
Difficulty Level: Level 4

We don’t have a ride leader for the evening ride, so Level 4 riders should expect to be independent, carry a map, and be equipped with tire-changing equipment etc. Please use the comment section to let others know you will be riding so that you can anticipate others to ride with. It’s always nice to know you’ll have company!

Thursday Morning Ride, July 18: “Le Tour de Port Hope” 54 or 48km

Since Ball between Cornish Hollow and Ferguson is under construction, we’ve chosen a route that avoids that road. The morning option has two options to choose from, starting from The Mill in Cobourg. This route heads over to Port Hope on the Fifth Line. After a tour of the Port Hope downtown and waterfront, the 54 km ride returns to The Mill via the infamous Bickle Hill (an obstacle that the 48 km ride avoids!).

Start time: 9:00am
Start location: The Mill parking lot in Cobourg
Route map: (Ganaraska Freewheelers route, no link to GPS): Printable route map here

Since we haven’t determined ride leaders for this ride, it’s important that everyone print out their own map and have it with you. We’ll likely break off into more than one group, depending on how many riders are there and what pace people prefer.

Due to a severe thunderstorm watch we will cancel tonights ride. Sorry folks.
