Bike Up Northumberland: Call for Volunteers
Bike Up Northumberland is fast approaching! This is fun ride supporting our local hospitals for anyone who can ride a bike, but like all good things, requires a team of people to make it a success. We could use more volunteers to hand out water and snacks and cheer participants on at the stations along the way, or to ride sweep for each of the distances (5, 10,25, 50, 100km). If you like to be a part of this community event, taking place September 10th, please leave a comment below, send us an email, or contact Maria Siemiaszko directly.
Monday, August 22nd: Level 1 Ride
Dale has come up with a nice flatish Port Hope area route for this evening. It’s becoming dark quite a bit earlier these days so we will begin the Monday evening rides at 6:00 starting today. The humidity has broken and it should be a beautiful evening for a ride!
Date: Monday, August, 22nd
Time: 6:00
Meeting Location: Home Hardware parking lot, Port Hope
Level of Difficulty: 1
Ride Leader: Dale Pierce
Sunday August 21: Mixed Levels Ride 10am

Thursday Morning casual ride: Level 2+
Short notice, but if there’s anyone interested in doing a level 2+ ride tomorrow, I’ll lead a ride at 10am leaving from the Westwood Park on Carlisle. If you’d like to go out for a ride (about 90 minutes), let me know by leaving a comment. If there’s no interest, I’ll just stay home and pull weeds in the garden. Just saying…. ๐

NHCC Township to Township Cycle tour in Sept: Interested?
Coming up on the weekend of September 16-18 is our two-night Township to Township Cycle Tour. A lot of work goes into the pre-planning, so whether or not it proceeds will be based on if there is enough interest.
Please take a moment to indicate if you are interested. We will make the final decision by Wednesday, August 24th.
Details: We estimate the total cost to be around $50 and the NHCC would provide two dinners, two breakfasts, one lunch, and all snacks for the rides. The first night will be spent camping in Warkworth and the Siemiaszko estate and the second night at the Louden/Reitknecht estate in Hope Township. The distance for each day will be roughly 50k. There are some hills, so we’d say the level of difficulty is expected to be Level 3. You can choose to either go self-supported and carry all your gear on your bike, or take advantage of the vehicle that will be provide to carry some gear. Note that the vehicle is not a cargo bus….there’s limited space, so we ask that people pack lightly. Departure time on Friday will be approximately 2:00pm.

Tonights ride cancelled (Tuesday)
Ride cancellation notice, Tuesday August 16: Due to rain, we’re cancelling tonight’s ride. Stay inside and stay dry! Hopefully we’ll see everyone out for tomorrow night’s All Levels Ride at Boston Pizza.
Thursday August 18: Big, Hilly Level 4 ride!
Yep, it’s hill time again. 39k of lovely, up-up-and-up! Naturally, what follows is some downhill, so it all works out in the end. Bickle Hill followed by the Jamieson Twins. You work hard in the first half of this ride and then the last half is speedy fun! Sunset occurs at 8:10pm, so lights are required on bikes at 7:40. Since daylight hours are shrinking, we’ll start this ride at 6:00 in order to allow time to finish before the sun sets.
Start time: 6:00pm

Start location: Westwood Park
