Ride Cancellation Notice for Tuesday May 3

Ride Cancellation Notice: Big giant raindrops falling from the sky. 30-40mm worth, and since we are a cycling (not a swimming club), we’ll cancel the ride tonight, Tuesday May 3.

If there are ride leaders available, there’s a possibility we could re-schedule some of the rides for tomorrow evening as a short-notice alternative. Please monitor the Cycle Club app to see which, if any Rain Date Rides get posted.

The Regular Cycling Season starts Sunday!

The much anticipated start of our regular cycling season begins this Sunday May 1st and the rides have now been posted on Cycle Club! This means that there will be recurring rides on Tuesday Evenings at 6:30, Thursday Mornings at 10am, and Sunday Mornings at 10am. Other rides will also appear on our Ride Calendar from time to time as well, but will be above and beyond the standard rides.

Full details of next week’s rides are all found in your Cycle Club Account.  If you haven’t already signed up for it, please do so.  Start here! https://www.cycleclubapp.com

Levels:1, 2, 3, and 4

Why do I need  to sign up for a Cycle Club account?
To RSVP to a ride: Allows the Ride Leader can anticipate participants and plan accordingly.  And you can also see who’s riding, which is kinda nice, isn’t it? Among others things, it gives the Ride Leader access to your emergency contact information in the event of a mis-hap.  Ride Leaders only have access to that critical information if you have RSVPd!

To access the Club’s Ride Calendar: That’s why we joined after all! Cuz we want to ride our bike with others.  To see all the Club’s events and the particulars of Start time, Start location etc., that’s where you see it all.

Where and when do rides start?
We like variety! Start locations will vary ride to ride, depending on where the Ride Leaders wish to take the group. Occasionally the start time will also vary, for instance in the heat of July and August when we move the morning rides to 9am in order to beat the heat.  As the season progresses and days become shorter, you may see evening rides starting a little earlier.

How can I ask questions about a Ride beforehand?
With your Cycle Club account, there is a Discussion feature attached to each and Event (Ride) where you can post questions that the Ride Leader or other participants may respond to.

Ride Cancellations:
Bad weather happens—Rides may sometimes be cancelled due inclement weather, and other unforeseen circumstances.  Through your Cycle Club account you will receive notifications of such.

Guest Riders:
We welcome guests! So if you have company visiting, or just know of a friend or two who might like to try it out there are Guest Waivers on our website that they’d need to sign and bring to a ride.  Guests may ride for up to 3 rides before a full membership would be required.

Group Rides, Ride Leaders, and Sweeps:
Most of our rides are Group Rides.  This means that there will be a Ride Leader whose role it is to ensure that the ride is safe and enjoyable while following the Club’s Risk Management Guidelines.  There will usually be a Sweep working with the Ride Leader, and whose role, among others, is to be at the back of the group, ensuring nobody gets left behind.

Your Ride Leader is the one with the skill, experience and leadership abilities to help guide others. During a ride, a Ride Leader will establish the pace (speed) of the ride. They will not necessarily be at the front of the group all of the time but rather mingling and integrating to ensure overall cohesiveness of the group.  They are the first point of contact for troubleshooting issues and safety concerns.

Which Level should I choose?
Start easy and work your way up! Aim for a level lower than what you think you might be able to handle, and if it’s far too easy for you, you can certainly try out the next level up. We have four Levels to choose from, starting from Level 1 and increasing in speed and difficulty as you move up.  You are not locked into any particular level! You are welcome to participate in any level on any ride, if you are able to keep the pace.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road!  đź™‚

Pre-Season Ride: for all Levels, 1:00 at Donegan Park

Tomorrow we’ve got some nice temperatures in the forecast so we seize the moment again (hoping rain stays away), and do a pre-season ride from Donegan Park.  There is no particular route planned. The goal is twofold—1. to get our legs moving again, and 2. to get out bums comfortable in the saddle (more on that in a sec). We’ll have something for everyone! We’ll divide up into groupings of similar ability, with the more experienced heading out into the countryside, and the newest riders sticking together locally, while some of the new Ride Leaders will head out for their own training session.

What about that sore bum thing?
Here’s the deal—your bum will probably be a little tender after the ride and it’s common.  Even the most experienced will tell you that it takes 3-5 rides at the beginning of the season before that tenderness magically disappears, regardless of your saddle shape and its rigidity. It’s all about time spent on your bike.  Get out on a few pre-season rides and by the time May comes around it will resolve itself!

Date: Tuesday April 12
Time: 1pm
Start location: Donegan Park, 25 D’Arcy St. Cobourg’
Ride Planner(s): Anita, Randy, Dennis

RSVP: Please use your Cycle Club Account to indicate that you’ll ride.  If you plan to ride as a guest, please bring a guest waiver with you (available on the NHCC website).

Short-notice ride: 3:00 at Hamilton Township Offices

It’s short notice, but that’s how these pre-season rides sometime work. We seize the moment! This ride is at 3:00, starting at Hamilton Township Offices.  We’ll just head out for a Level 3-ish ride, with the goal being mostly to get our butts accustomed to being in the saddle again.  There are a few hills out here and it’s a little windy out, but we’ll take it easy.

Time: 3:00pm
Start Location: Hamilton Township Municipal Offices, 8285 Majestic Hills Road
Ride Planner: Anita
Level of difficulty: Level 3

RSVP: Please RSVP using your Cycle Club account.  (Or leave a comment, if you don’t know how to use Cycle Club yet)
